Dear Phill and Carmen. Lovely to be with you again. Thanks for your hospitality. A very comfortable night and great breakfast. I had a great trip on the steam train and then down to Oban and to Coll the next day. Thank you so much again. See you next year? Francis

This is an excellent guest house and the hosts, Phil and Carmen, are very welcoming. The breakfast is first class, and it is served by one of the staff with a ready smile and a cheery word. Gets the day off to a perfect start.

Tips:

Neptune's Staircase at Banavie is well worth a visit as you will be amazed at this feat of engineering. We also enjoyed a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig, again a most enjoyable experience.

Warm welcome, lovely views from the lounge, terrace and dining room. Evening meals available too which saves going out if it’s too wet, but location is great for train, town centre and restaurants. A good choice of dishes to suit all tastes, recommend the platters of cheeses and cold meats, delicious! A great range of board games for our use too. Felt safe and relaxed in these COVID times, thank you.

What a wonderful guesthouse. We came here after finishing the West Highland Way and finished a day earlier than expected. Carmen and Phill made arrangements to make it possible for us to come early and were wonderful hosts. The rooms were clean and lovely and all the staff were fantastic. I can’t speak highly enough of the breakfast, it was delicious, generous and had everything you could ask for. We made good use of the bar in the lounge area and the views were stunning. All in all a wonderful guesthouse run brilliantly. Thank you for everything.

13th June 2021:

A little (tenuously necessary) backstory... The night before arriving in Fort William, we stayed at a hostel in Kinlochleven. The staff clocked off at 11PM... queue an almighty party two doors down from us. Bad techno music and screamed conversations lasted long into the night. The main phone number and direct mobile all rang out. The hostel's email address wasn't manned during the night. We awoke feeling exhausted and walked through horizontal rain to Fort William. After summiting the small hill in front of Guisachan Guesthouse, we entered what I will always remember as a perfect oasis of calm after a seriously hellish 234 hours. We were greeted by two people (I'm bad with names -- sorry. Tall gentleman and shorter woman), who were friendly and helpful. They checked us in and showed us to our room. It was clean, well-equiped, and boasted amazing views out over the water. Two of our party were on the early train and we expected that we'd have to miss breakfast... but nope! The Guesthouse did a packed lunch, which was a very nice gesture. In short, the Guesthouse was exactly what we needed. Many thanks!

Carmen and Phil were extremely friendly and accommodating, some of the best hosts we’ve come across and operating in some very strange Covid times. The B&B had amazing views, was very well organised. The owners were very helpful with suggestions of what to do and where to go. We all had a lovely time, thank you

Tips:

Be prepared for a little hill walking up to the B&B but the views are worth it! Take advantage of the covered patio for a drink and views at the end of the day. The local cinema and cafe is amazing, food is great -try the tapas! The Harry Potter train is great, views spectacular. Be prepared for Mallaig to be very busy when you hop off the train, better to roam further than stay close to the train for food etc.

Perfect end to our walk along the West Highland Way. Lovely hosts who had no problem welcoming two very soggy walkers and their soggy boots which were whisked away to the drying room and duly brought back to us all dry and warm the next day on our departure. The view of the loch and surrounding hills from our room made it a lovely lie in the next morning. We will walk the WHW again one day and this is where we’ll stay when we do!

Great stay at a lovely guest house. Our hosts, Carmen and Phil, made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Great home cooked food saved us having to go looking for a restaurant, which was very convenient given the rain. We could stay in, enjoy the lovely view with a beer and a glass of wine. Thoroughly recommended.

Tips:

If going up Ben Nevis. Use walking boots with ankle support, use walking poles especially for the climb down. Midges weren't too bad on Ben Nevis but when we did the Steall falls they were really bad. I would recommend long sleeves long trousers and a head net. Boat trip was good. We loved our stay! We were travelling with our 6 month old daughter and the Guisachan House were so accommodating for her! Travel cot and sheets provided in our room and there was a high chair and kids cutlery set up at breakfast on the dining room. Amazing touches that did not go unnoticed! The breakfast was superb! We only needed a light dinner later on in the day as it set us up for the day! It’s location is only a 5 minute walk from the centre of Fort William and the views! Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Tips:

If heading out for food and in the current COVID climate I would recommend booking somewhere as we spent a good half an hour or so walking up and down the high street trying to find somewhere with space for us with the pram. We ended up at the Black Isle craft beer hall for pizza which was lovely.

Book ahead to eat in the Ben Nevis Inn up at the foot of the mountain, the food was outstanding - don't be confused with the Ben Nevis bar and Grill in town which is not the same place. The Jacobite steam train is a must! Take the ferry to Mull to visit Tobermory via Corren and Fishnish rather than the busy one from Oban - beautiful driving route!

Nothing was too much trouble for this family run guest house. We were made to feel so welcome. Fabulous choices for breakfast. Incredibly comfortable bed. All areas spotless. All staff very friendly and helpful. Will return for sure. Already recommended to friends.

Ideal location for steam train Mallaig trip, only yards away. There's also a drying room for hillwalkers.

Really great guest house to stay in. We had a lovely room with a great view across Fort William and the top of Loch Linnhe. It’s very handy for the town centre and has a lovely garden and elevated position. Phill and Carmen and Morven were very welcoming and helpful. There was a good place to store our bikes securely. We would recommend this B and B and would happily use it again.

Tips:

The Black Isle Brewery Restaurant in town serves great pizzas and beer.

I can't praise this place enough! We decided to go to Fort William for my birthday and we booked the family room and dinner; breakfast was included in the price. I have to say that the food was amazing and they catered for all of our needs (one gluten free and one pescetarian in the group) without any problems. I am used to restaurants not having much on offer (expecially for somebody with food intolerances) but the owners, Carmen and Phil, provided us with an excellent menu and fantastic quality food, thank you :) The room was modern, really clean and had every facility you could need. Also, the beds were reeeeeally comfy. They also have heated drying facilities for your boots and other equiptment, which is a bonus. I can only say thank you for your warm hospitality, for a wonderful stay and we will be back again :)

I had a very cosy and relaxing stay. The service was excellent, the owners and staff were always available and happy to help. The food was really tasty and homemade, and was also given the option of the bar menu. The owners paid great attention to detail learning what I liked, for example they offered me a latte with breakfast instead of the usual breakfast coffee as they knew I had enjoyed the latte's I had ordered the evening before; this was very thoughtful of them and added to my positive experience. They went above and beyond.

Carmen and Phil were a lovely couple, who gave me a very warm welcome. I would highly recommend their Guest House to anyone visiting, or travelling around, Fort William and the Western Highlands.

Tips:

I would recommend a walk along the shores of Loch Linnhe to anyone visiting Fort William. Starting from the shore gardens as you enter Fort William from the South, and ending at Neptune's Staircase in Bonavie in the North. Spectacular views of the mountains and Glens, while listening to the gentle noise of the water breaking onto the rocks. You will also see some historical landmarks including, castles, Ben Nevis and finally the great engineering work undertaken at the canal - which connects to Loch Ness.

I absolutely loved staying at the guesthouse. From the moment I checked in until leaving everyone was so friendly and lovely. After a week of camping the west highland way, a comfy bed with crisp clean sheets and a nice hot shower were exactly what I needed! My room was even upgraded so I had a view. I was also really impressed by how seriously you were all taking coronavirus precautions. I’m sure switching from a breakfast buffet to table service must be more work for everyone but I have to admit I felt very fancy having a multi-course breakfast brought right to me. Thanks for being so lovely! You’re now the place I want to stay everytime I come to Fort William!

Tips:

The guesthouse is right by the train station and about halfway between the old and new ends of the west highland way for anyone finishing the same journey I did. They even have a drying room somewhere if you need one!

This place was very relaxed and welcoming, the people were lovely & very helpful. Easy parking & access to town. Food was great, room very clean. We borrowed a map of Ben Nevis & I found it in my car today. Sorry! Will send back in post.

Tips:

We tried the Bistro at the Alex & the Stables Grill. Both good food. We went by boat to Knoydart from Mallaig on Western Isles Cruises - great experience. Also went on the Gondola up Nevis Range - very worth while. We were there out of season, so somewhat limited but for us prefer the quieter times.

We all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and would very much like to come back sometime. The atmosphere was very friendly, and the breakfasts were deliciously memorable! Thank you very much for everything.

Tips:

The Crannog Restaurant was extremely good, but it's probably best to book in advance as they get very busy. However, we had good food wherever we went. The Gondola ride on the Nevis Range was most enjoyable, and as it's a day ticket you can ride up and down as many times as you want to. The café and restaurant there were very good too.

I was on my own and was a slightly late booking for the season. I was given a very small but comfortable room for which the hostess apologised. Still all the facilities were there. I was perfectly happy with this and it looked out onto the attractive garden. I wish i had had more time to appreciate the breakfast ; as the breakfast room has a great view of the Loch.

Town worth visiting because of its position in relation to Loch Linnhe and proximity to Ben Nevis. Lots of pubs and restaurants and bed and breakfasts.

Very friendly hosts. Nothing was a problem. The guesthouse was welcoming. The breakfast suited us perfectly, plenty parking spaces. The location was ideal, and the view fro the dining room was lovely.

Tips:

Within walking distance to all facilities, such as the train station, tesco, Lidle and sainsburys. We wanted to ride on the Jacobite railway, and could not book online. We had to wait till 2pm for the train to return, and see if any seats. You go on the platform and form a que to pay. A word of warning they only take payment in cash, no cards. We paid £37.50 each return. The views were great. The cow hill trail is behind Guisachan which is fab.

Dear Phil and Caroline I loved staying with you and you couldn't have been kinder. Your breakfasts were memorable - I do love a really good Scottish breakfast - the works! I'll certainly come to you again if I get the chance. And what a marvellous setting you're in too. Francis

Tips:

The Jacobite steam train is an amazing experience. If they'd had trains in Tolkien's Middle Earth they'd be like that! The canal locks at Banavie are an easy local bus ride - marvellous to watch boats going through against such matchless scenery. Thoroughly to be recommended.

We had to catch the 8.30 train from Fort William and said on our arrival late the previous night that we would have breakfast at 7.30. But we overslept and were therefore pleasantly surprised when at 7.45 there was a knock on our door, not to wake us but to alert us to the delivery of two generous packed breakfasts which were as unexpected as they were welcome. It was a brilliant gesture and much appreciated!

I stayed at the guest house for 4 nights with my family over Easter. Our intention was to climb Ben Nevis, weather permitting, and Fort William is an ideal location to stay. Guisachan Guest House is about a 10 minute walk from the town centre and is in a quiet area slightly elevated giving you a great view over the Loch. The guest house is clean, quiet, well maintained and caters for walkers. There is also a lounge room with a small bar which is great to relax in. The staff are led by carmen and Phil who were very knowledgable about the area and gave us plenty of good advice about places to see. The breakfast was excellent and overall we had no complaints. When we go back to Fort William we would definitely stay at Guisachan Guest House again.

Phill and Carmen were delightful hosts. They went out of their way to make our first day in Scotland memorable and offered great suggestions on restaurants, activities, etc. The rooms were charming, clean and well equipped. Comfortable seatin area with a great view, snack foods and drinks. Good WiFi. Breakfast was delicious and the views from breakfast were also stunning. We highly recommend this establishment. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. I

Tips:

We really enjoyed the local museum. You could easily spend a couple hours in the museum. Blas and the Lime Tree were excellent for delicious splurge dinners. I also really enjoyed my informal whiskey tasting with Carmen and Phil on two different evenings around the fire at the guesthouse. Very good service, being able to leave luggage on morning arrival in Fort William and collect before evening departure, as well as 0730 breakfast serving to enable early starts. Good range of options for breakfast. Room was very clean and quiet. Thick curtains certainly kept the light out when sleeping.

Tips:

Close proximity to public transport links. Train journey from Fort William to Mallaig is spectacular, and early service links with ferries out to Small Isles. Ben Nevis is well worth the climb.

I always do recommend Guisachan House. The knowledge and friendliness of the owners and pleasantness of the staff makes you feel welcome. Will return again next year for the 4th year in a row.

Tips:

If you are interested in history, the Highland Museum is a small, well-organised treasure trove of the area. The Jacobite is just down the hill at the Ft. William Rail Station and for a view of the old city wall, the entrance to the cemetary is some of the last piece of the exterior wall of Ft. William. Old Inverlochy Castle is just to the north of town. And you are just a bus ride from Glencoe.

The place is ideally located :-) only a 2 hour drive+ferry to the Isle of Mull (Duart Castle) and a mere 2 hour drive (by bus) to the Loch Ness. There're also indoor and outdoor activities nearby (45 minute drive) for those who fancy climbing rocks or ice or walking on wooden beams hanging high ;-) (The Ice Factor). Anyway, the guesthouse allows to do great many fantastic things around...Boredom can't be on your agenda there!:-) What's more, the hosts Phill & Carmen are really lovely people, really caring. They catered to all our needs during our stay from 28 April to 3 May 2018. We were 32 so I guess it wasn't always a piece of cake for them :-) but they managed to handle everything perfectly well. I definitely recommend this place to other travellers looking for a place where you feel like at home and where you don't need to rack your brains for hours to find something amazing to do in the area ;-)

We couldn’t have been made more welcome by Carmen and Phill when we returned after 20 years to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The location of the Guisachan is ideal, a short walk from the train station and ideally placed for Fort Williams high street. We parked in the Guisachans private car park. Our room was spotless and the bottle of champagne a lovely touch. The view from the lounge/bar area over Loch Linnhe is gorgeous and the room itself very relaxing. I had the full Scottish breakfast which set me up for the rest of the day and was most enjoyable. My wife had poached egg on toast which was made to order, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks Carmen & Phill, hope to see you again soon.

Tips:

Ideally placed minutes walk from the train station and into Fort William itself. Ideal also for climbers and hikers as we found out, quite a few were staying. We spent an afternoon cruising Loch Linnhe onboard Souters Lass with Crannog cruises, tickets were £15pp purchased from the the small pier. The cruise lasted 1.5hrs and the Skipper made it very enjoyable with his informative commentary. We ate at ‘The Stables’ grill bar, five minutes walk from Guisachan. The food was delicious in a relaxing atmospheres with great staff. Fort William’s high street was relatively quiet even on a Saturday with a mix of outdoor clothing shops, cafe’s and souvenir shops. Fort William is an ideal base to explore the Highlands.

It was lovely to meet the new owners and to see the improvement you have made especially the super fast WiFi. I hope you enjoy my book Rory MacSween and the Secrets of Urquhart Castle and you are enjoying it. I will see you on my next visit. J A Kay.

Tips:

A visit on the Harry Potter express the steam train to Mallaig is a must as is a crawl around the excellent watering holes in the town.
