1st October 2021:

This was our second stay at Torlundy House, having been there 3 years ago. We enjoyed our stay then and, during this visit, found the excellent standards have been maintained. The room and bathroom were tastefully furnished and decorated. Everything you would want was provided (and more!) - bottled water, shortbread, sweets, toiletries etc. The breakast was excellent. This year, light evening meals were available too. We dined here each evening and really enjoyed the food, served with a perfectly cooked selection of vegetables and potatoes. If anything, the portions were too big, but we did our best to finish everything! The food would put most restaurants to shame. As this is 2020 and with the ongoing Covid pandemic, it was reassuring to see the measures that Michael and Maxean have implemented to minimise risk. I'm not normally someone who recommends things to others, as everyone has different tastes and likes, but I would wholeheartedly recommend Torlundy House. We can't wait to return.

Michael is an excellent source of information on the Fort William area - walks, places to eat and visit etc.

That is fantastic. We are so pleased you enjoyed your second stay with us. Sometimes the second stay does not meet the standards of the first stay, especially when you have a few years between so it is great to know we maintained standards and added value as well. It was great that you dined with us each evening, and enjoyed the food. Everyone's appetites are different, but I think we might reduce the portion sizes a little. Our main aim is to provide honest wholesome and fresh food. Thank you also for mentioning the Covid protocols we have in place. We just want to make people feel comfortable and safe by reducing the risk as far as we can. So until another year then. Thank you again for writing about your stay.

From start to finish it is the perfect B&B; from the digital registration form, excellent COVID-19 safety protocols, spotless accommodation, beautiful location, and wonderfully thought out, personalised breakfast through to Michael’s informative and friendly hosting. I really felt genuinely welcomed at Torlundy and had a wonderful stay. Michael even let me leave my mountain bike in the garage overnight. I subsequently stayed at a very famous venue after leaving Torlundy (at nearly twice the price) and can safely say Michael that Torlundy is much better. Marks out of 10 for Torlundy? 10 out of 10. Keep up the good work.

Many thanks for writing about your stay and I am pleased that everything about it was good for you apart from your chosen location. I am sorry I can do little about the location, but am a little surprised that you marked it so low as you were here to go mountain biking and we are as close as you can get to pursue that sport in the locations you wanted to go biking! That said we cannot pick the house up and move it, and you chose us as we were close to where you wanted to be. There is nowhere closer or better situated for what you came to the area to do so your location mark is somewhat of a mystery to us.

26th September 2021:

Located down a lane with approx 6-8 other properties away from the main road,quiet and peaceful but within 5-8 mins by car from Fort William. Michael and Maxeane were perfect hosts with nothing being too much trouble. Michael also provided a lot of useful local information. Our room was spotlessly clean and was maintained to a high standard as was the rest of the property. Combined with an excellent breakfast with lots of choice it made our stay very enjoyable. Towels were replaced on a daily basis, if required in addition to tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Would definitely come back.

A trip to Mallaig is worth a visit on the steam train (used in the Harry Potter films). The fish restaurant, on the bank of Loch Linnhe in Fort william was also excellent (though pre-booking essential). The village of Glencoe has historical background.The commando memorial at Spean Bridge about 20 mins away by car is also a must, brilliant views of the lochs and Ben Nevis.

Torlundy House is in a spectacular and peaceful location. Very convenient for Ben Nevis by either of the two main routes and a comfortable oasis to come back to at the end of a long day. The house really is absolutely spotlessly clean and tidy, not even a cracked tile in sight. The covid precautions are first rate and sanitiser is provided throughout the house. They even provide newspaper for boot drying purposes!

Book restaurants ahead during the busy season- when we were in town it was nearly impossible to get a reservation anywhere. There is always KFC and McDonald’s nearby but thats hardly the highland experience that people come for!

Torlundy house is one of the best if not the best guest houses we have stayed in and Michael, you have every facility that anyone could need, the house is immaculate, nothing in our eyes was out of place or needed attention, I would recommend torlundy house to anyone.

My favourite eating place was the grog and gruel in fort william with a good selection of ales too. So much to do and see in the area, we enjoyed Neptune's staircase, Glen Finnan, Jacobite train journey, and Glen Nevis to name a few

A huge recommendation. If I could give it 10 I would.Beautifully appointed roomy bedrooms,pristine en- suite,the standard of hygiene is beyond excellent and Covid protocol was very impressive,we felt very safe. Michael,the host was very attentive to dietary needs and very friendly and welcoming.I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and would certainly stay there again. It was blissfully quiet as well.

We had booked local restaurants but after sampling,what Michael calls his simple home cooked meals we cancelled the restaurants and had dinner at Torlundy House each evening. He is too modest his culinary skills are excellent each meal was delicious and plentiful. Try the cheese and biscuits for dessert but come hungry! The Nevis Range Experience although expensive is worth it but only on a good clear day. Tip ,don’t buy advance tickets, check the weather forecast the night before ,go early as it’s close by as it gets very busy later. Of course The Jacobite Steam Train,but must book tickets well in advance. Ps I forgot to mention breakfast, scrumptious . I suspect you won’t need any lunch!

6th September 2021:

Michael is a terrific host: friendly, accommodating, helpful. The B&B is immaculately clean, it is upscale, finely appointed, quiet, serene. It is a little difficult to find which building is the B&B: it is in a cluster of similar buildings, all with fabulous gardens! Basically, when you enter from the main road, curve around to the right, turn left, proceed past the wooden fence to the B&B’s sign on the white wall. Voila! You are in a wonderful place.

Spice Tandoori at the end of the pedestrian walkway in town is fabulous! I had chicken tiki masala curry, sweet, not spicy, basmati rice, and na’an.

Happy Valley in Torlundy where we are located is a cluster of some 14 houses, all different in design. We have a sign at the main road where you enter Happy Valley and from there on further signs at each junction and turn directing guests to Torlundy House. Lastly there is a sign at our entrance (illuminated at night). Anyway you made it and had a good time, and we thank you for the time taken to write your review.

6th September 2021:

Excellent B&B with very spacious bedroom and bathroom. Our bedroom as well as all public areas were spotless. Plenty of car parking available and only a 5 minute drive into Fort William. Breakfast was first class with lots to choose from. Michael was a terrific host, very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area. We would have no hesitation in recommending this luxury Guest House.

As we were only in Torlundy for the one night we went out for dinner at the Glen Nevis restaurant. We would certainly recommend booking in advance for dinner as restaurants are extremely busy in the Fort William area.

Torlundy House is an excellent place to stay , and Michael is an excellent host , the premises are spotlessly clean , and if you need anything while you are there Michael is only glad to help , Being 3 miles out of Fort William it is excellently situated for all the amenities close by , If you don’t want to venture out at night Michael will cook you a very nice meal as long as you give him prior notice , and there is a lovely lounge so you can relax the night away , 11 out of 10 for this excellent B and B

There are a few pubs down the main st where you can get food or a pint , but it’s advisable to book as they are very busy , The Grog and Gruel and the Moorings Hotel are a couple of places to go for a meal if you want to venture out in to Town , The Moorings Hotel is situated next to Neptune’s Staircase

Upon our scheduled arrival time, Michael was there to greet us, give us a quick rundown of the accommodation, including COVID restrictions, our room and local amenities - more detail info provided either on official website or in room folder or the link sent by Michael via text a week or so before our visit. Internally and externally, the B&B is immaculately presented, very clean and lovely decorated. We stayed for 2 nights, during which Michael made us very welcome. Breakfasts were plentiful and cooked to high standard. Torlundy is a few miles outside of Fort William itself but easy access by car or public transport. Overall I cannot recommend Torlundy House highly enough if visiting the Ben Nevis area.

Ben Nevis Inn excellent for food, drink, atmosphere & views. Albeit you do need either own transport or taxi to get to or from but worth it. Camusdarach Beach a must.

We personally enjoyed the stay. The location was brilliant away from busy Towncentre, yet just 10 mins drive to town center. The location is close to all important sight seeing location on Fort William. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I only have positive comments.

Local pub foods were really good, For example Ben Nevis Inn, We really enjoyed the food there. We tried several Indian restaurants there, they were average. The Cafe in the train station is also good. For sight seeing, there is Ben Nevis hike, there are activities at Nevis Range, Jacobite Train experience, Go for a walk in Neptune Stair case. If the weather is good go for a walk along side the river in towncentre.

We had a really comfortable 2 night stay with you. Nothing was left out in the room and we know that Michael couldn’t have helped us if we needed anything. Everything was so well thought out and it shows that you take great pride in your work. We would love to stay again!

Went to the Highland Cinema, really lovely food and atmosphere. Ben Nevis was great, although we had no views.

We have stayed here before and as usual it was excellent in all areas. The accommodation was first class and the meals delicious. Michaels knowledge of the area was really good and he can always recommend somewhere or something to do. Hopefully we will be back next year again . I can only speak highly about this accommodation.

Try Michaels evening meals better than any restaurant. Go to Glenfinnan the place where bonnie Prince Charlie landed. See or ride on the Harry Potter express. Ben Nevis is near

15th July 2021:

We arrived to a lovely warm welcome and offered a tea/coffee/snack after our journey which was a lovely touch. Our room was bright, clean and spacious with tea/coffee making facilities provided. We had precooked our evening meal from the menu provided in advance and it was fabulous. Piping hot and very generous portions. Breakfast was the same and we were frequently asked if we needed more of anything - nothing was a bother. We felt very COVID safe, with the whole setting being spotlessly cleaned, rigorous protocols being followed and plenty of hand sanitizers provided. All in all a very enjoyable night away in a beautiful part of the country and would definitely return and recommend to anyone travelling to that part of the country. Thanks for having us.

The Highland Soap Factory outlet was very good, we enjoyed the Jacobite steam train and the local Glenfinnan viaduct and monument as well as Neptune staircase and Fort Augustus on a trip to Inverness.Enjoyed a trip up to shiel Falls in Glen Nevis and ascent of Ben Nevis

Torlundy House was a fabulous place to spend our night in Fort William , The house was immaculate and very comfortable place to be . The breakfast was exceptional and beautiful in its presentation, this was a delightful house in every possible way . The bedrooms were very thoughtfully kitted out and one of the most comfortable beds we had slept in , I cannot praise Torlundy House high enough.

Eating out is good in Fort William and our place of choice was Garrison West just off the Main Street , The food was Very Good

Great location set back from A82. Lovely quiet neighbourhood with lovely walks from the front door. The hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming. Rooms are well decorated and the bed was really comfy. The highlight of the stay is the breakfast. A big thanks to Michael, Maxeen and the two lovely dogs.

Perfect location for Nevis Range - 2min drive away. Also good spot as stop off if travelling further north.

Suggest taking diesel train Fort William to Mallaig, better for photography, travel on left hand side to Mallaig and reverse coming back. Driver stops on Glenfinnan Viaduct for photos, Jacobite return journey also excellent.

Our stay at Torlundy House was excellent. We really liked the location, convenient for Fort William and Ben Nevis but without the crowds. Our room was spacious and really comfortable, and we appreciated having a local area map and tea and coffee. Breakfast was also excellent, lots of choice, healthy and cooked! Perfect for us, thanks very much Michael for hosting us.

We'd certainly recommend the Ben Nevis Bunkhouse Inn for somewhere to eat, but make sure you book for dinner, it gets busy. We walked part of the West Highland way from here to a hill where and old Fort used to be located. Great views over to Ben Nevis.

Extremely hard to find something negative to say, this is probably the best B&B we’ve ever stayed in great location overlooking Ben Nevis, spotlessly clean, great breakfast and the hosts are so friendly l would recommend Torlundy House to anyone

Here you are two miles outside Fort William where you will find everything you want good food and drink and not too expensive, wildlife tours ( we saw seals and two Golden Eagles), great scenery to walk through and enjoy and finally the magical Ben Nevis to climb.

Thank you for the opportunity to review and I will take this step by step. The location of the b and b is excellent and just a very short drive from Fort William and Ben Nevis. The room and bathroom was immaculate as well as the dining room facilities. The room had a TV with a good choice of stations and toiletries were provided. The room was warm and car parking facilities were provided. The breakfast was excellent and very filling. We were a little disappointed by the response when we called to advise we wanted to get food first and arrive after 7pm. We were a little taken aback by having the terms and conditions referenced to us. We were very sympathetic to the owners desire to take his dog for a walk and we immediately left Fort William to meet this deadline. It put a dampener on our stay as we had been driving all day and we at no point facilitated by way of a key in the night box or something like that. I would like to address the issue of the rate. We made a telephone enquiry about availability and were quoted a rate of 95 and advised to book via the website. When we went online we seen two rates available to book. One at 85 and one at 95. We booked the 85 for no other reason than the fact it was possible to do so. A comment was made by the owner as to the fact we were quoted 95 on the phone and should have booked that rate. No response was sought from the owner as to why this happened or for further input from us. I would suggest that if 95 is the rate then payment and booking should have been taken over the phone immediately and we would have paid. Also remove the 85 option from the website or refuse the booking at the rate of 85. We received a confirmation email to confirm the booking at 85. I think a little mea culpa from the b and b would have been better than bringing this up wth paying customers. The choice to not recommend is based on the two issues above. We feel that a little bit of better customer service would be required in order to make a recommendation to others.

The tavern in Fort William is well worth going to for food.

many thanks for the review about your stay. I would like to address your points in full for you and anyone else reading this review. First of all I am very pleased that you enjoyed the room and the breakfast along with the other facilities. In relation to the response when telephoning. When you go through the online booking procedure you are presented with the check in times before you actually proceed to committing to the booking and providing payment details. You actually have to "tick" a box to agree to the Terms of the booking. If you ticked without reading, and the Terms are in a big blue box, then I am sorry, but you would have seen the latest check in times. There are many places in Fort William that close check in earlier than we do. We have agreed to do what you wished with other guests and found ourselves still waiting for them after 11pm at night!! Next, yes you rang initially to enquire and I quoted you the rate of £95.00 which was correct, however I advised you to book online as there may have been applicable active offer. Perhaps you missed that. There was in fact an offer to pay the cost of your booking in advance without the possibility of refund in the event of cancellation, which you opted to take and it reduced the price by £10.00. I make no apology for that. Some of our offers are only available to online booking, there are many businesses give a lower rate when booking online as it can actiually reduce cost, which we pass to you. Quite the reverse could have happened, you could have not opted for the discount and then complained about not taking it! No mea culpa was required as you selected a discount option only available online. If I remove the offer from the website I deny many other guests a saving which has proved extremely popular with many and actually got us some very good comments. I am therefore slightly surprised that you chose to say what you have as both issues are there fore the reading and taking before you make a booking. I trust your review and my response will serve to help other guests when they book and avoid potential issues. All being equal it was a pleasure having you stay here with us, and as can be seen from our many reviews, our customer service is generally well received and in fact we have just been awarded a "Gold" standard award for customer service. I trust you had a good time in Scotland and a safe trip back home. Very best regards Michael and the team at Torlundy House.

Very nice host and a very comfortable and clean B&B. The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated too with a lot of thought and attention to detail. We only had one night but it was very comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was excellent too and cooked fresh. Would like to stay again in the future when in the Fort William area.

A very quick and easy drive into Fort William town which we enjoyed walking around although this was 19:30 so most of the shops were closed. We enjoyed a great meal in The Stables Grill but I think we were fortunate to get a table so perhaps book in advance. Heading north out of Fort William, there is the Commando Memorial which is in a nice scenic location.

What every BnB should be. A warm welcome, and comfortable and clean room, great food, spectacular view, relaxing sitting room. Our host was accommodating, friendly, and pleasant.

Hike Ben Nevis. Pay attention to the Jacobite train schedule if you want to see it. Make a reservation at Crannog Seafood Restaurant. Also eat at the Princes House in Glenfinnan. Hike to Steall Falls and continue through the valley.

A bit too tightly managed. For example, book breakfast time and we had to be out before 10:00 am so that the rooms could be cleaned each morning.

Booking a breakfast time helps us to provide the freshest cooked breakfast we can and spend time looking after guests, as well as reducing wastage. It also helps us cater for the majority of guests who are off for the day and like to leave in good time. We are serviced accommodation which means that rooms are serviced and cleaned every day. We cannot possible afford to have housekeeping staff available all day, so we do it in the allotted hours we have in the morning. We do like guests to come back to a room that is as near like when they first checked in. We understand that these arrangements may not suit everyone, however we do make them available to see by all guests looking to book so all are aware. Maybe, just maybe, a hotel might have suited your needs better than a B&B. We manage our time to provide the best service we can in relation to the tariff. We do appreciate your comments and feedback.Where demand requires something different in the way we work we do change.

We had a very enjoyable stay. The breakfasts were outstanding the best we had anywhere in our tour of the Scottish Highlands. The proprietor Michael made a good first impression with tea and biscuits in the lounge and couldn't do enough for us as a local tour guide. The guest room was excellent with well stocked toiletries etc. The breakfast room had an amazing view of Ben Nevis, although it was obscured by the rain and drizzle. We didn't let this destroy our spirit! Going back to the breakfasts, they were to die for. Who provides strawberries, raspberries, blueberries? The porridge was a real treat and I could hardly wait to get down for breakfast. My wife enjoyed the scrambled eggs and smoked sammon and I wished I'd had that too! Thanks for a great stay, if we ever come this way again Torlundy House will be our first and only choice.

We had a lovely couple of nights at Torlundy House. We were made very welcome by Michael, who is happy to share his local knowledge to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The whole house is very clean and comfortable. Our room and en-suite were both a good size, and what better way to start the day than with a tasty cooked breakfast. We would definitely recommend Torlundy house to others, and hope to stay again ourselves too.

The main reason for our stay was to travel on the Jacobite train from Fort William to Mallaig. A very enjoyable and relaxing trip that we would highly recommend.

Michael, Maxine and Tina have set the bar high for the quality and hospitality of their B& B. Michael has pre-planned sightseeing trips for the area and keeps copies of local menus for his guests. The rooms were very high quality with all the amenities supplied.

A multitude of things to see and do in and around Fort William depending on your interests. The Jacobite Train to Mallaig is a must, book well in advance on line. The Lochy Pub has great food and friendly staff. The Grog and Gruel on High Street pedestrian mall was excellent food and staff as well. The Old Station Restaurant in Spean Bridge is very good food and great staff. Visit the Commando Memorial while in Spean Bridge.

I seem to get through a lot of my tour sheets as guests do find it helps them experience the Highlands more. We were advised to go to The Moorings for dinner and would also recommend it. We heard another couple advised about taking a cable car up Ben Nevis and we would probably do this in the future. Where we stayed was good for access to taking the steam train journey to Maillaig, we would thoroughly recommend booking this train journey.

We felt we’ve had a 5 star experience at this place. The room was spacious and super clean. The breakfast was the best of our trip, better than 5-star hotels during our trips. Yes we do ask that guests go out and enjoy the Highlands between 10am and 4pm to allow us to get on and do all the work that is expected. This is why we get a lot of great comments like yours about the cleanliness and presentation. It is much more difficult to do this with guests in the house, which is after all our home as is the case with the vast majority of B&Bs. You are also quite correct about needing a car to explore, especially as there is so much exploring that can be done.

Thank you to Michael for looking after us so well. The bedroom and bathroom was extremely clean, and the bed very comfy. I especially enjoyed the Sea Kelp toiletries that were in the bathroom! Breakfasts were delicious, we had the salmon and eggs one morning and then a fry up on the other morning. There was plenty of choice for breakfast whether we wanted a cooked breakfast or a continental. There is a lot of parking outside the address. It is situated in a lovely quiet culdesac. Would definitely stay there agin!

Try Garrison West in Fort William if you want a good meal. The Gondola lift at the Nevis Range is worth a visit as is a train trip to Malaig, even on the Diesel as opposed to the Jacobite Train. Much cheaper as well

Lovely B & B of a great standard and not your usual basic B & B. Very friendly and definitely would stay here again. Both Michael and Maxine made our stay very comfortable and it was like home from home

We had our own car so made things really. would recommend that you maybe hire a small car to get around. Our main visit was to climb Ben Nevis - which we did. Just make sure you are geared up as some people think you can just go up in trainers and shorts. The local pubs in Fort William all very friendly and serve reasonable food but stop serving at around 20:30pm. Good Marks and Spencer and Morrison supermarkets are a drive away from the B & B . It was ideal to have some other food as opposed to restaurant food or convenient food.

Great that you achieved your goal and also enjoyed your stay with us. Sorry our location was not quite up to scratch for you, but I suspect it was because we are a little distance, well 3 miles, from Fort William. We do all we can to let people considering booking with us know that we are 3 miles from Fort William, so its a shame when people book and then mark us down on location. We think our location is spot on, not in the town, great mountain views, especially of the sometimes elusive Ben, quiet, peaceful, in fact just what you don't get from a B&B in Fort William town. If you don't want to drive into town in the evening a taxi is not expensive, then you can enjoy a drink. Thanks for taking the time to review your stay.

I was with my mother visiting from France and we stayed in a twin room. The purpose of our visit was part of a road trip from Perth via Glencoe and back via Dalwhinnie. It was a last-minute decision to stay at Tolundy and we were lucky to get the last room (and that it was a twin!) We couldn't have been happier with the quality of the accommodation and the warm welcome. If you are needing a big breakfast for a day of hiking, you are guaranteed to get what you need! Also an ideal location for accessing all the local sights, especially if you have your own transport.

We went to the Geographer in Fort William for dinner, the fish and chips were really excellent!
